September Classes
Literacy/English as a Second Language
Classes will be running for learners from Entry level 1 right through to Level 2. Enrolment will take place from 30 August 2007 to 5 September 2007, it will be necessary to bring an up to date benefits letter, or proof of income when you come to register. At registration you will be given an assessment of your English to give us an idea of what level of class you need to be in.
We are happy to have Asylum Seekers, Refugees, Immigrant Workers or if you are local and just want to brush up on your language skills then please don't hesitate to come along.
Small Talk - An introduction to childcare for those needing extra support with English
This course will give you a basic introduction to the vocabulary of childcare, you will be given a greater understanding of what goes on in a childcare situation, how to deal with difficult behaviour, activities and Government Legislation.
All of the 10 week courses come at a cost of £25 which must be paid before classes start. Five week courses are at a cost of £15 and charges will be organised at a later date for the Food Hygiene course.
Spanish for Fun - Two levels of courses are on offer, beginners and basic level.
For those who have no knowledge of Spanish we have a real starter course and those of you who have some basic knowledge then the next level may suite you. Feel free to come along and give it a try, as part of the fun we also have some sessions on how to make your own Tapas which is a traditional form of Spanish cooking.
French for Fun - Mixed level class
This is a class for those who wish to learn French or brush up on what they may have learned many years ago at school. This is a lively class with a mixture of experience and knowledge, so don't worry if it is a long time since you learned any French we will be happy to meet you at what level suites you.
Taster to IT - beginners class
This is a short course only lasting 5 weeks, but it is there to help you on the first steps of getting into computers, you will learn how to use the basic set ups of the computer, how to log on and off, how to access programmes, create your own email address and general get over any gremlins you may have. This is the introduction course to "First Steps" which is a City of Sunderland College course that you can continue onto at our centre.
Food Hygiene - both basic and intermediate levels
If you're interested in learning about the essentials of working with food, possibly for work reasons then this is the course for you, normally a three day course depedent on your level of English (can be adjusted for those who may need some extra support). An examination can be organised externally to the course however this must be paid for by you. The Intermediate course is for those who may need a higher level qaulification and have already taken the basic level qualification.
